Help us fill the fundraising pot to the brim so we can renovate Ackworth School’s swimming pool in summer 2027.
Our plans will combine the comfort and practicality of a modern swimming pool with the distinctive Victorian features that make Ackworth’s pool so special. We will shorten the pool from 33 metres to 25 metres and reduce its depth now that the diving boards are no longer in use. Together, these changes will reduce the volume of water by around a third, meaning less water to heat and treat. We will replace the air-handling unit, install a new pool cover, improve the lighting and create modern, flexible changing facilities and a seating area for spectators. We want more people to enjoy swimming here. Building on our thirty-year relationship with Pisces swimming school, we hope to welcome local schools and other community groups, using this pool to its capacity both within the school community and by sharing a renewed facility more widely.
We are deeply grateful to the donors who committed to supporting the pool’s renovation several years ago and have continued giving towards its future. Their generosity has helped bring us to this exciting point. We have now received a major donation of £200,000—a game-changing gift that means we can confidently aim to renovate the pool in summer 2027.
Our goal now is to raise a further £100,000, giving us the funding and contingency we need to proceed and make the pool substantially more sustainable. The pool currently costs approximately £300,000 a year to run. The planned refurbishment is expected to reduce that by a third, saving around £100,000 annually. With the additional funding, we can install an air-source heat pump and solar panels, aiming to remove our reliance on gas heating for around half the year. Together, these measures could save a further £100,000 annually, bringing running costs down to approximately £100,000 a year rather than £300,000. That would reduce the pool’s environmental impact and release £200,000 each year for significant further development and opportunities. Your gift will help us renew the pool and keep it affordable to use for years to come.
We're aiming to raise £300,000.00. So far we've raised £275.00
